What Our Contacts Say About Ritchie Phillips

Are you sceptical of client testimonials on websites? And how do you maintain client confidentiality? For these reasons, we asked some of our professional contacts to write about us. We hope you enjoy their comments and that you may even find some of them relevant.

As an experienced practitioner Stuart Ritchie is able to recognise legal issues arising in a trust and estate context and assist his clients to work through them with the help of their established or new legal team. He has a good analytical sense and his grasp of the situation- both from a helicopter view and in detail – was most useful on assimilating a new matter. He has a sound understanding of the duties of fiduciaries.

Head of Contentious Trust & Succession Group

International Law Firm

I have worked with Ritchie Phillips since the firm was founded. If I were summarising my view of the firm to a client, I would say that Ritchie Phillips delivers a highly personalised service and an attention to detail which many industry competitors don’t seem able to replicate, it is capable of dealing with the highly complex to the straight forward, on the former, often able to provide innovative solutions where others haven’t, and on the latter always having an eye for doing things as efficiently and cost effectively as possible for the client.

Managing Director

Large UK Wealth Manager

We have worked closely with Stuart Ritchie of Ritchie Phillips LLP for more than a decade on certain UK resident non-domiciled clients. We have, and continue to, enjoy the relationship. We have found him to be practical and his work professional, prompt and efficient.

Director

The Leading Multi Family Office in Europe

As a commercial law practice we deal with a wide range of clients whose needs are diverse, challenging and at times technically complex. Critical to our role is knowing our clients have the right tax advisor who will ensure their business and personal tax affairs are properly aligned to their exit strategy. For that reason we only recommend to our clients those advisors who have demonstrated to us the highest degree of skill, expertise and experience, and who operate to the same standards of integrity and professionalism which our clients expect of us. We have worked with Stuart for a number of years and have no hesitation in recommending him to our clients. Stuart has a great understanding of business and combines common sense with a first rate mind to deliver creative solutions to complex problems. We have always found him to be refreshingly different to other tax advisors as he recognises the issues quickly and can articulate a practical solution or strategy in terms which are simple enough to understand even for lawyers!”

Senior Partner

Leading South East Commercial Solicitors

For trusts and landed estates a professional team ensures clients receive timely, accurate and cutting edge advice. Stuart Ritchie provides this support and is a trusted advisor to trustees and families. He has that ability to analyse opportunities and think out of the box, ensuring all options are considered. This might cover tax planning, the right ownership structure for an estate and advice on how to operate trading ventures. He is a vital member of the professional team.”

Senior Partner

National Land Agents

I have worked with Stuart Ritchie when resolving financial issues arising out of a marriage breakdown. His understanding of the financial aspects and the way the Court works was invaluable. Also his ability to present the financial position in way that a lawyer would understand rather than an accountant was very helpful! There is often advice on tax issues and interpretation of figures needed once the financial information has been gathered and Stuart can advise on this too. Above all Stuart is knowledgeable, approachable and professional which is important to my clients.

Solicitor

Specialist Matrimonial Practise

I instructed Stuart Ritchie of Ritchie Phillips LLP in a back duty tax case, which had as a backdrop an enquiry under the criminal code relating to the affairs of different individuals.

Stuart listened very carefully to the client’s explanation of his financial affairs so much so that he could reconstruct the client’s financial life including the accounting records of one of his investment companies for the previous twenty years. This helped to answer on behalf of the client all questions of the HMRC investigators.

Stuart and his colleagues, have a very detailed knowledge of the remittance basis. As the client was a UK resident non-domiciliary, this was of immense benefit in concluding the disclosure under the Liechtenstein Disclosure Facility to settle the back duty tax case.

The client has now come in from the “cold” and all his financial and taxation affairs have been regularised, in no small part due to Stuart and his team. Their skills combine well with other professionals in giving clients a very effective representation.”
